LONDON (SNP Report): Jannik Sinner etched his name into tennis history on Sunday by defeating two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to win his maiden Wimbledon title, becoming the first Italian ever to triumph at the All England Club.

With the win, the 23-year-old World No. 1 claimed his fourth Grand Slam title and delivered sweet revenge for his heartbreaking loss to Alcaraz in the French Open final last month, a match in which he squandered two sets and three match points. Sinner’s latest triumph also marks a seismic shift in men’s tennis, with the young Italian and the Spanish star now sharing the last seven major titles between them, a budding rivalry set to follow the iconic Big Three era of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.

The Italian entered the final with five straight losses to Alcaraz, including a painful defeat in the Italian Open final. But this time, Sinner played with tactical brilliance and relentless intensity. After dropping the opening set, Sinner bounced back, breaking Alcaraz early in each of the next three sets, including the crucial ninth game of the third set where Alcaraz slipped on the baseline. In the fourth set, Sinner seized control with another early break and held off two late break points with ice-cold composure.

The Centre Court crowd, including Prince William and Princess Catherine, witnessed a spectacular blend of power, finesse, and drama, as Sinner sealed victory on his second championship point, erupting in joy on the hallowed grass. Sinner’s Wimbledon journey wasn’t without drama, he cruised through the early rounds, got lucky with Grigor Dimitrov’s injury in the fourth round, regained form against Ben Shelton in the quarters, and dismantled Djokovic in the semis to reach his first final at SW19.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz’s bid for a Wimbledon hat-trick ended despite his resilience and flashes of brilliance. Had he won, he would have joined the elite company of Borg, Sampras, Federer, and Djokovic with three consecutive Wimbledon crowns.
