LAHORE (AM Khan): Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has acknowledged Pakistan’s superior performance following his team’s disappointing series defeat, describing the tour as a valuable learning experience ahead of upcoming international assignments, particularly the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Speaking during the post-match media interaction after the conclusion of the series in Lahore, Marsh said: “It was a disappointing series for us. We certainly came here aiming to win, but credit goes to Pakistan for the way they played and dominated the series. Despite the loss, it has been an important World Cup lesson for our team.”
The Australian skipper highlighted his side’s struggles in both batting and bowling departments. “We couldn’t perform well against the home side. We failed to form solid partnerships, and Pakistan’s bowlers maintained good pressure on us. As a result, we kept losing wickets at crucial moments, thus losing the series badly,” he added.
Marsh particularly praised Pakistan’s spin attack, acknowledging that Australian players found it challenging to adjust to spin-friendly subcontinent conditions. “The way spinners performed in Pakistani conditions was impressive. We were not fully prepared for that level of spin challenge. However, we are taking this experience positively and will use it as preparation for the T20 World Cup,” he remarked.
March expressed deep respect for Pakistan’s cricketing strengths, especially in home conditions, noting that the hosts executed their strategies more effectively throughout the series. “Pakistan is a strong side, especially in these conditions. They utilised their home advantage exceptionally well and clearly outperformed us.”
Looking ahead, Marsh emphasised that Australia’s primary focus now shifts towards the T20 World Cup, where the team aims to regroup and deliver improved performances. “Our focus is now firmly on the World Cup. We are working towards improving our performances and will aim to compete strongly for the title,” he said.
Providing an update on leg-spinner Adam Zampa, Marsh confirmed that the bowler suffered a groin injury during the match, which prevented him from batting in Australia’s innings. The Australian captain concluded by reiterating his team’s commitment to learning from the Pakistan tour and using those lessons to prepare for future global competitions.
