Despite Lahore Qalandars’ commanding victory in their HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 opener, fast bowler Haris Rauf has made it clear that he is far from satisfied, issuing a strong warning to opponents while setting even higher expectations for himself.

Speaking at the post-match press briefing at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, Rauf reflected on key moments where luck appeared to deny him crucial breakthroughs. In a candid yet determined tone, the right-arm pacer revealed his frustration at narrowly missing wickets. “I tried to give my best, especially in situations where the stumps didn’t fall,” Rauf said. “At one point, I even checked if they were stuck. It was just luck that they stayed intact, next time, I’ll make sure the stumps are broken.”

His remarks, though light in expression, carried a serious undertone, a signal of intent from one of the league’s most feared fast bowlers. Rauf’s focus was not on the margin of victory, but on execution and precision, areas he believes can still be sharpened as the tournament progresses. “The key is execution,” he emphasised. “We had clear plans going into the game, and the effort was to follow them properly. When you execute well, results follow.”

The Qalandars’ bowling unit delivered a disciplined performance, applying sustained pressure that proved decisive, particularly in the middle overs. Rauf highlighted how collective responsibility and clarity of roles have strengthened the attack, making it one of the most balanced units in the competition. “Early wickets are always important because they give you momentum and control,” he noted. “But it’s not just about one spell, it’s about bowling as a unit.”

He credited the combined efforts of captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and fellow pacer Mustafizur Rahman, among others, for dismantling the opposition’s batting lineup. According to Rauf, this sense of cohesion allows the Qalandars to maintain pressure across all phases of the innings. “Everyone understands their role, and that makes a big difference. When we operate together, it becomes easier to control the game,” he said.

Despite the comprehensive nature of the win, Rauf was quick to dismiss any notion of complacency. Instead, he stressed the importance of continuous improvement, a mindset that has defined Lahore’s success in recent seasons. “There’s always room to improve,” he said and concluded. “We’ll go back, review our performance, and come back stronger. The goal is simple, to give our best and play our part in winning the trophy again.”
